To me, deviantart has become a popularity pile-up, and nothing more. It really isn't a place for critique and hasn't helped me become a better artist. All you really get is "ass-pats" and the like, and that's not how I want to spend what little time I for have art. yes, I know there is an option now to critique art, but I don't have a subscription, and honestly, from what I'vve seen, its not that helpful anyway.
Deviantart IS a great way to show the world your art and possibly get lots of people to see it. However, I am nothing on deviantart without a dumpload of pageviews, tons of obsessive watchers, and popular material. I can understand the appeal, and it is in some ways a great way to keep contact with your friends to see what they've been creating.
I am not leaving deviantart...I just won't be posting material or commenting as much.
